YANES VENTURES

The operating layer for the entertainment business

The operating system for how entertainment gets made.

This business runs on spreadsheets, email and whatever the last person knew. There are databases that report on the industry and small tools that each do one job, but nothing that actually runs a company. We are building that, function by function, until it covers the whole business. Take the programs you need.

The business still runs on

  • Spreadsheets
  • Email threads
  • Whatever the last person knew

Every company in this business has the same three systems of record. We are replacing them, one function at a time.

One layer under the whole enterprise

01

Production

Schedules, crew, vendors and deliverables in one place. When something moves it moves for everybody at once, so nobody is working off last week’s version.

02

Financials

Budgets, cost reports, rebates and cash position tracked while the work is happening, not a month after it.

03

Deals & rights

Agreements, clearances, incentives and obligations, all searchable. Rebate rules go in as numbers the software can calculate, so nobody is reading a PDF to work out what a territory pays.

04

The enterprise

Reporting across every title, entity and territory, so whoever is deciding can see the whole company rather than one project at a time.

Three programs, live today

01

SLATE

Development, slate, rights, representation

Runs the production company, not just the projects. Submissions get logged and routed for coverage instead of piling up in an inbox, packaging and rights sit with the title they belong to, and every project shows exactly where it stands. One place the whole company works from — creative executives, business affairs, finance, assistants and interns each see their own view of the same slate, so nobody has to ask what happened to a script. The agency edition tracks submissions per client, deals, quotes and options, and what is due when.

02

PURSER

Bids, billing, accounting, company finance

For the vendors this business runs on: post houses, visual effects, equipment, stages, facilities, service companies. Bids and quotations built off what the last job actually cost rather than a guess, change orders captured when scope moves, then invoicing, collections and margin per job. Underneath it, the company’s own books: funding, VAT, multi-currency cashflow and a month close that locks. A cost will not save without its receipt.

03

PILOT

International production, incentives, claims

For companies producing across borders. We hold the incentive rules for 47 jurisdictions as numbers the software can work with, so you can model the same production in four countries and see what each one actually pays back. Then it runs the job: location scouting and the production plan, budgets net of rebate, spend tagged for eligibility as it is entered, and the claim carried through to payout.

Set up around your process

Your approval chain, your currencies, the rebate rules where you shoot, your templates and chart of accounts. Nobody has to change how they work to use it, and it runs on your own instance under your own branding.

Or built for you

Some companies do something specific well enough that it is worth building to. We take that on as its own project, connect it to whatever you already run, and hand it over documented.

Six of the sixteen Plays on its own

Sixteen functions. We are building for all of them.

Every one of these is its own market, and most of them are still run out of spreadsheets. Six are live on real company data. The rest are in build, in the order that makes sense to build them.

Running on live data today In development

Everyone who touches the work

Producers

Schedule, spend and where the risk is, as of this morning rather than last Friday.

Executives

A view across the whole slate without waiting for four departments to send decks.

Legal and business affairs

Terms, rights and obligations attached to the title they cover, and findable when somebody asks.

Agents and reps

Client activity, submissions and where each deal stands, without going through three assistants.

Finance

Actuals against budget as they land, and the audit trail is already there.

Operations

The processes that hold the company together, written down and automated where that makes sense.

Nothing runs the company. We are building the thing that does.

The databases report on the industry from outside it. The small tools each do one job and stop at the edges. Meanwhile the real work sits in spreadsheets and inboxes, in files that do not talk to each other and that walk out the door when the person does. We came up in this business, we are building for all of it, and nothing goes into a sales conversation until it has been running on somebody’s real slate or real ledger first.
